Richard Goddeau, DO, FAHA

Dr. Richard Goddeau s a board certified Neurologist with subspecialty certification in Vascular (stroke) Neurology. He specializes in treating patients with cerebrovascular diseases such as stroke, TIA, carotid stenosis, intracerebral hemorrhage, and brain aneurysms. In addition to his work at CNS, Rick is a Senior Deputy Editor in Neurology for UpToDate, an online medical resource for clinicians that provides continually updated information on a range of disease manifestations, diagnoses, and evidence-based recommendations. He is also an Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and continues to work with residents and fellows in the Neurology ambulatory clinic. 

Rick received his undergraduate degree at Harvard before completing his medical degree at the University Of New England College Of Osteopathic Medicine, in Maine. He did his Neurology residency at UMass and also was a Chief Resident during his final year of training. He completed additional subspecialty training as a fellow in Vascular Neurology under Dr. Louis Caplan at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center / Harvard Medical School. He later joined the faculty at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and worked as a vascular neurologist at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH before returning to Massachusetts. While at UMass, he has served for several years as the director of the Vascular Neurology Fellowship, Quality Improvement officer in Neurology, and member of the Emergency Acute Stroke Task Force. He has co-authored multiple articles on stroke and vascular disease, has served as principal investigator for several multicenter clinical research trials. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, Massachusetts Medical Society, and has been elected Fellow of the American Heart Association. 

Outside of Neurology, Rick enjoys spending time with his family, going running, or getting lost backpacking in the mountains.
